The Bermuda Triangle is the most notorious stretch of ocean in history, evoking fear and endless fascination. Bounded by Florida, Bermuda and Puerto Rico, these waters have swallowed countless ships and planes and their crews—some vanishing without a trace.
I was tasked in developing the CGI shots of the steamship, The General Whitney. I worked on animation, directing, and look development of multiple sequences. This ranged from illustrating smooth sailing at dusk, to the demise of the steamship in the treacherous waters. I came up with solutions for the wakes created by the ship, creating wind effects for the sails, and creating interesting camera angles.
On March 4, 1918, the USS Cyclops disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle. It is the biggest vessel to ever vanish in those dangerous waters. It may have been the victim of a ship-sinking phenomenon known as a rogue wave. While searching the deep waters, The Bermuda Triangle: Into Cursed Waters team makes a discovery that solves a century-old mystery. In the end, they do not discover the USS Cyclops, but they do discover the General Whitney, a steamship that was lost in 1899.
